Turner's Rod & Reel Club

CLUB HISTORY

The Turner’s Rod and Reel Club was founded in 1990, in Pasadena, California. The Club was originally sponsored by Sport Chalet and changed it's sponsorship to Turner’s Outdoorsman in 1996. The club was founded to support all anglers in all aspects of fishing. The organization had grown to reach its highest membership total of 113 in 1998.

The Turner’s Rod and Reel Club holds activities for both the Freshwater and Saltwater enthusiast. For the freshwater angler there are monthly tournaments at the local lakes to challenge even the savviest angler. All of the freshwater species are targeted and include; Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Catfish and Trout. For the saltwater angler, boats along the California coast are chartered. Trips ranging from a few hours to a few weeks can be found on the charter schedule.

The Turner’s Rod and Reel Club has been maintaining a club record book for the last 10 years. There are over 100 species of fish in the record book. The Club holds an annual Whopper Board Tournament which rewards anglers for catching and recording their catches using a point system, for 10 different species of fish --  5 freshwater and 5 saltwater. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place finishers. This tournament recognizes club members who actively pursue a wide variety of targeted fish. This tournament is run on the honor system to promote good sportsmanship. In conjunction with the Whopper Board, the Club also awards our highest annual honor, The Angler of the Year! This perpetual Trophy is awarded at our Holiday Banquet to the angler with the most points received from the Whopper Board.

The Turner’s Rod and Reel Club continues to grow and develop into one of the finest fishing clubs in Southern California. Join us any second Wednesday on the month. Guests are always welcome.
